Private Piano Lessons Singapore

Our private piano lessons are for all ages and are conducted weekly, and are generally one hour per session.

Classes with us are not always focused on exams. We can tailor our piano classes to your needs. However, students typically want to follow a recognized grading system. Some examples are the ABRSM and the Trinity College London exams.

Our classes are geared towards ABRSM grades 1 to 8 and are taught by an experienced teacher in a home studio.

Piano Pedagogy

Students will learn piano technique and build their repertoire. They will be taught essential and important skills for more advanced grades. Learning these skills early in the students’ music education will form the basis of a strong foundation.

Aural Training

Students will benefit from Aural training as part of the lesson to improve their musical ear. This skill is an integral component of their musical journey. Aural training enables the student to identify musical elements in their head while reading the music which then improves their ability to sight-read and to play their piece.

History of Music

Your child will be exposed to the great composers and the history of the genre that they are playing. This makes the learning fun and enables your child to connect to the pieces that they are playing. Learning about musical history helps your child to broaden their musical knowledge and keeps them coming back for more.

Theory of Music

Students will learn the theory of music as part of the lesson. A knowledge of music theory enables the student to understand the grammar of music. Students will be able to understand what the composer intended the music to sound like. The benefit is that sight-reading of the music score will improve for the student. Intensive music theory lessons are also available.

Musicianship

Learn how to connect the music from the music sheet into passionate phrases. The musicianship is about learning how to turn the notes on the music score into beautiful-sounding phrases. Musicianship improves performance and confidence in your child.

We have been with Teacher Germaine for 9 months, and the experience has been wonderful! She provides targeted practice instructions that help my daughter improve steadily and effectively. Germaine is a wonderful teacher with her own kind of magic. In 10 months’ time , she guided our 7Y girl from the very basics to achieving a high distinction in ABRSM Grade 5 music theory - beyond anything we imagined! We are grateful, not just for this outstanding result, but for how she nurturing our girl’s genuine love for music. Our girl absolutely adores and misses Germaine, and can’t wait to start Grade 6 with her. Teacher Germaine is an amazing teacher who strives to understand the way my daughter learns and tailor her lessons according to her strengths and weaknesses. She truly cares and takes a keen interest in her progress. Every lesson is a joy and we can see how her love for music has blossomed over the few months with teacher Germaine. She is not only merely teaching my 2 kids but she is also imparting the love of music and music appreciation to them. Ms Germaine helped my 10 year old son to prepare for Grade 5 theory. She was very patient and her methodical approach meant he could cover a significant amount of material within quite a short period of time. She was engaging and explained concepts well. He thoroughly enjoyed her lessons. Meredith started her music theory lessons with Mrs Ho in September and she looks forward to the lessons each time. While her instrument is the violin, Mrs Ho is able to bring alive the knowledge of music theory with the importance of enjoying the musical journey and instrument. Her lessons are integrated with the child’s pace of learning, and Meredith knows that she is able to ask questions comfortably. Mrs Ho was also able to observe that a larger print of the sight-reading scales book might benefit our child better and indeed it has. Mrs Ho is a patient and encouraging teacher. She explains clearly and has reasonably high expectations of her students. She also keeps parents updated of their child's progress. Mrs Ho taught both my kids (7 and 10 years old) Grade 5 music theory.  I was impressed that she was able to teach Grade 4 and 5 music theory in 2 - 3 months compared to the previous theory teacher that taught Grade 1-3 in 7 months.
