My Passion is Music!

Mrs. Germaine Ho, BMus, LLCM(TD), ALCM, is a music teacher specializing in piano pedagogy. She has been teaching for more than 2 decades and is committed to nurturing the next generation of young musicians into lifelong learners and developing their passion and love for music. She is passionate about walking on a musical journey with her students and has been responsible for personally developing a love and passion for music in many children’s lives. Over her teaching career, several of her students have become professional musicians and music educators themselves.

Growing up in a musical family and being musically oriented, Germaine lives and breathes music. She feels that music instruction is as important as enrolling kids in soccer, gymnastics, or ballet.

Besides singing in a church Choir, she serves as the chairperson of the Voices of Singapore (VOS) Community Chorus. Together with a dedicated committee, she is responsible for supporting and assisting the Artistic Director and the VOS Team in the vision of building a Singing Singapore. She is also a member of the Voices of Singapore Ladies Choir.

While honing the skills of her students, Germaine stays committed to helping her daughter develop as a professional singer – something that has inspired her in recent years and has rekindled her love and passion for nurturing young musicians.

Music is something that can be enjoyed throughout an entire lifetime. By learning the piano, a child can make beautiful music and appreciate different genres of music, thus enriching their lives and promoting lifelong learning.

Unlike music schools that face perpetual challenges of keeping staff permanently, and thus the constant change of teachers disrupts the students’ lessons tremendously. A private teacher is committed to helping the child in the long term.   We have been with Teacher Germaine for 9 months, and the experience has been wonderful! She provides targeted practice instructions that help my daughter improve steadily and effectively. Her warm and encouraging approach creates a positive learning environment, inspiring my daughter to stay motivated and do her best.   Germaine is a wonderful teacher with her own kind of magic. In 10 months’ time , she guided our 7Y girl from the very basics to achieving a high distinction in ABRSM Grade 5 music theory - beyond anything we imagined! We are grateful, not just for this outstanding result, but for how she nurturing our girl’s genuine love for music. Our girl absolutely adores and misses Germaine, and can’t wait to start Grade 6 with her.   Teacher Germaine is an amazing teacher who strives to understand the way my daughter learns and tailor her lessons according to her strengths and weaknesses. She truly cares and takes a keen interest in her progress. Every lesson is a joy and we can see how her love for music has blossomed over the few months with teacher Germaine. Under Germaine’s tutelage, she achieved a remarkable distinction score in her grade 5 ABRSM music theory exam within a short period of 3 months.   There are teachers and there are mentor teachers. Germaine is one such mentor teacher. She is not only merely teaching my 2 kids but she is also imparting the love of music and music appreciation to them.   Ms Germaine helped my 10 year old son to prepare for Grade 5 theory. She was very patient and her methodical approach meant he could cover a significant amount of material within quite a short period of time. She was engaging and explained concepts well. He thoroughly enjoyed her lessons. Additionally, she provided me with regular updates about his progress and this open communication meant we could better support him to achieve his goals.

She is currently teaching my younger son (who plays violin) aural, sight reading, and grade 6 theory. He enjoys his weekly lessons, and looks forward to them. Ms Germaine is a very knowledgeable, experienced and caring teacher, who is passionate about building up a good musical foundation in her students.  recommends Meredith started her music theory lessons with Mrs Ho in September and she looks forward to the lessons each time. While her instrument is the violin, Mrs Ho is able to bring alive the knowledge of music theory with the importance of enjoying the musical journey and instrument. Her lessons are integrated with the child’s pace of learning, and Meredith knows that she is able to ask questions comfortably. Mrs Ho was also able to observe that a larger print of the sight-reading scales book might benefit our child better and indeed it has. I was impressed that she was able to teach Grade 4 and 5 music theory in 2 - 3 months compared to the previous theory teacher that taught Grade 1-3 in 7 months.
